The Jux Hotel

Concept: Create a mixed-use hotel capable of hosting a range of events as well as restaurant space.  This project will incorporate the history of Greensboro and contrast the traditional with new contemporary ideas of today.  Juxtapose is to contrast two different ideas or to place close together.  This will be the main element of the space and will also inspire the name and logo of the hotel.  The Jux Hotel will feature coffered ceilings, exposed brick, thick crown molding, natural textures and flowing fabrics.

What: A Mixed-Use Hospitality Development

Where: Greensboro, North Carolina adjacent to The Shoppes at Friendly Center

Why Greensboro: Greensboro is the third largest city in NC and growing,  The city has an extensive and colorful past and much of the architecture reflects this history.  This project will marry the traditional architecture with new ideas and concepts of present day while providing more hospitality establishments for the growing population and tourist attractions.

Site: The site for this project is located on the corner of Northline Ave. and Hobbs Rd.  It is directly adjacent to Friendly Center which will be perfect for the restaurant tenant space on the first floor of the hotel.  The site has already been cleared and is approximately four acres.  The roads along this site have bike lanes and also sidewalks.  The Greensboro Bog Garden is across the street and features walking trails and a small lake.  The Greensboro Planning and Community Development Zoning Report states that this site was intended for a mixed-use development.

Sustainability: This project is an infill development with nearby public transportation, bike lanes, side walks and natural areas.  The solar panels on the roof will power as much of the hotel as possible.  All fabrics and upholstery are green-guard certified and may contribute to LEED certification.  Toilets are low flow and dual flush, urinals are waters less, public faucets are solar powered and low flow, guest room faucets and shower/ tub fixtures are low flow.  Brick used on the interior of the building is locally made, aiding the local economy.  Interior windows are operable allowing the user to control the interior atmosphere.  Smoking is not allowed inside or within 50 feet of the building.  These are just a few of the sustainable features of the project.
